While i am dealing with cronjobs inside a private project, i run into some trouble with parallelism of cronjobs. A simple example would clear up this problem. Assume you have cronjob that generates cachefiles (like product descriptions or semi dynamic webcontent like cached rss feeds). You will end up by running a creation cronjob in an interval of x minutes. The problem that could happen is that a cronjob is already running while the next one is ready to go. You can deal with that problem by setting a maximum execution time in you script but this can lead into strange data and side effects. I want to solve this problem with two interfaces you can use. The first interface, called "Lock", is solving the problem with parallelism. If a lock is aquired you are not able to aquire a second one, meaning one cronjob not more. The second interface, called "Shutdown", is solving the problem with an early and controlled termination of a running cronjob. If the cronjob receives a shutdown, the cronjob can terminate itself i a good way. Both interfaces have a file based implementation. Unittests and also examples can be found inside the projects. The next idea I want to realize is an implementation of the Subject-Observer-Pattern. The general idea is that the first call of the cronjob is acting as a observer. The observer itself is chunking the work and split the work by calling (and observing) a number of cronjobs (of its own) as subjects.

So after i moved my system to new hardware (and yes i love the hp microserver N40L allready), i run into some trouble with my fstab. The system tries to boot but couldn't find the root partition since the devices had changed. The sda has changed to sdc. But the friendly system switched into maintenance mode, so a quick search and replace solved the problem. I thought the problem was solved but after i added a device via esata and tried to boot, the same problem occured. The same error twice a day? Too bad, i have to migrate the fstab.

First you have to figure out the uuid's.

lsblk -f

After that you just have to edit your fstab file.

vim /etc/fstab #change line like /dev/sda1 / ext4 #to UUID=artodeto-1234-5678-9012-bazzlineDnet

Ab dem 1. Januar eröffnet in Den Haag das Europäische Zentrum zur Bekämpfung der Cyberkriminalität. Unter dem Kürzel EC3 wird das Zentrum innerhalb der Abteilung Operations Department in Betrieb genommen. Leiter ("Product Manager") des neuen Zentrums ist der frühere dänische Geheimdienstchef und jetzige Krimi-Autor Troels Oerting. Zwar ist bislang nicht vorgesehen, dass das EC3 eigene Ermittlungen betreibt oder auf dem Hoheitsgebiet anderer Staaten tätig wird. Jedoch sollen die entsprechenden Strukturen und Maßnahmen der EU-Mitgliedstaaten unterstützt werden. Dies gilt sowohl in technischer, analytischer und forensischer Hinsicht. [...] Das digitale Herz von Europol sind weitgehende "Analysedateien" (AWF), die in umfangreichen Dossiers Informationen zu Personen, Sachen und Vorgängen speichern. Angaben zu "kriminellen im Internet operierenden Gruppen" werden in den AWF "Cyborg" und "Twins" gespeichert. Europol betreibt eine Stelle zur Meldung von Straftaten im Internet und hat einen "digitalen Untergrund" ausgemacht, der sich unter anderem durch "unerlaubtem Zugang zu Sabotagezwecken", "Verletzung der Rechte des geistigen Eigentums", dem Versenden von Spam oder Angriffen auf Informationssysteme unbeliebt macht. Auch mit dem im September eröffneten CERT-EU arbeitet Europol zusammen. Im Arbeitsbericht für 2013 wird ausdrücklich auf die Zusammenarbeit mit den USA abgehoben.
